Tofu Shiratama Dumplings

When my oldest son was still little, I made this as baby food for him.
Now I'm making it for my second son.
But it tastes good even to adults!
Check the hardness of your dough as you add water and don't add too much at once! Recipe by OBU

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Put the shiratamako in a bowl and break the tofu on top. Tip: you do not need to add water at this point.
- 2
Knead it together until it is about the softness of your earlobe. If the water from the tofu isn't enough to get it to that consistency, add a little bit of water.
- 3
Boil in the same way as you would normal shiratama dumplings. Roll the dough into little balls and boil in water. To make sure the dumplings are heated through, wait one to two minutes after they float to the surface of the boiling water before you take them out.
- 4
Once they're cooked, cool the dumplings in ice water. Make sure to drain the water when you eat.
- 5
This time I tried adding tsubu-an, kinako, and zunda-an (crushed and sweetened edamame) for flavoring For homemade zunda-an, I used edamame paste baby food (the refrigerated kind) and added 60 g of sugar and 50 g of water and then microwaved it for a bit.
- 6
During Step 2, you can add a bit of matcha and the dango will turn this nice green color.

Yummy Chilled or Warm ✿ Tofu and Soy Milk Shiratama Dumplings Yummy Chilled or Warm ✿ Tofu and Soy Milk Shiratama Dumplings
I obtained tofu for the first time in a while (I live in Africa) so I made a healthy Japanese sweets. The tofu and roasted soy powder provide double the isoflavone effect! They won't get hard, even in the fridge, so make a lot and you can enjoy them for 2 to 3 days. And for my 1-year old and 3-month old daughters, these are highly nutritious.I think silken tofu would be better for this recipe, but I can only get firm tofu here (which has more nutrition, anyways) so I use that. When you are boiling the dumplings, make sure to boil for another minute after they rise to the surface! Recipe by Smuchi cookpad.japan -
Dumplings with Shiratama Glutinous Rice Flour & Tofu for the Moon Gazing Festival Dumplings with Shiratama Glutinous Rice Flour & Tofu for the Moon Gazing Festival
These dango dumplings are for the Moon Gazing Festival.I made them with tofu to make them soft and chewy. The tofu's moisture varies so adjust accordingly. If you make a lot of dumplings, you can store it in the freezer. Pat dry and wrap in cling film to freeze. The best way to defrost them is to put the frozen dumplings in a heat-resistant container with water, and microwave for 1~2 minutes. Drain and rinse in cold water. They're as nice as freshly made ones. For 2 servings. Recipe by Ka madam cookpad.japan -

Here's the third recipe in my panda series. This one's perfect for hot summers.Don't add all of the water at once during Step 7. Add a little bit at a time while keeping your eye on the consistency. Knead the dough thoroughly at this stage, and you'll have really soft and chewy shiratama dumplings. Recipe by Pichan plus cookpad.japan -
Chewy Tofu Shiratama Chewy Tofu Shiratama
My daughter loves mochi and dango. I usually make these with her!I think the shiratama becomes more chewy compared to when you knead them with water, and they won't become hard even after they've cooled down.I usually use silken tofu. Please adjust the amount since the water content of the tofu really depends on the brand! If you're not serving them immediately, add about 1 teaspoon sugar to knead. This prevents the shiratama from hardening. Recipe by Mikko*mikko cookpad.japan -
Tofu and Ground Chicken Shumai Dumplings Tofu and Ground Chicken Shumai Dumplings
Thank you for taking a look at my recipe.I love juicy pork shumai dumplings as well as sweet shrimp shumai dumplings, but in the pursuit of making something that was as healthy as possible, I wanted to make tofu shumai dumplings too. These are low in calories, have no added oil and are good for you. It's important to drain the tofu well to start.I made them bigger than the usual shumai dumplings.I used wonton wrappers this time, but if you use shumai wrappers instead, you will need to 25 to 30.These are "hana-shumai" (flower shaped shumai - the shredded wrappers look like petals) so they're easy to form. The children told me they had this at school, so I tried making it.The tofu has enough moisture, so there's no need to add any water to the shiratamako! If the dough is too dry, add a little water to make the dough soft and pliable, about the consistency of your earlobe. Chicken Tsukune Dumplings with Firm Tofu Chicken Tsukune Dumplings with Firm Tofu
If there are tofu burgers, there should be tofu tsukune as well?Reduce the sauce as much as you like! When mixing up the tsukune mixture, if you don't want to use your hands, mash up the tofu first using a whisk, then mix the chicken and other ingredients using the measuring spoon you used!About 1/3 of the tofu will be left over, so use it for chilled tofu dishes, or add it to miso soup! Seafood & Tofu Shumai Steamed Dumplings Seafood & Tofu Shumai Steamed Dumplings
My husband said this a long time ago, "I heard Tofu is healthy, but I tasted nothing when I had it and I don't understand why people are interested in that."Yes! Tofu is not the thing to have by itself. Always should be eaten with soy sauce, put in miso soup, or something else...In Japan, tofu is used for many things. Menu of stew, grill, stir-fry, bake, steam, or mix with something - just like you use meat. This is a "steam" menu with tofu. Mix with Hanpen fish cake (made from the mixture of minced cod fish, egg white, Chinese yam, and some seasonings). Easily able to get at the grocery store in Japan. My parents do love tofu, and mom has lots of incredible tofu recipes. Enjoy tofu in a fancy & tastier way!#heirloom n_u -
Tofu Dumplings Filled with Sweet Bean Paste Tofu Dumplings Filled with Sweet Bean Paste
When I feed rice dumplings to my 3 year old son, I put anko in the center to avoid getting his mouth and face sticky from anko. He can eat it easier this way, and he stopped complaining,"No more bean paste!" It works perfectly. The key is making the bean paste balls and freezing them beforehand. You can use unfrozen bean paste, but it will be difficult to wrap in the dough, because the dough might not be stretchy enough. It's easier to wrap frozen ones and they keep well in the freezer, so you're killing two birds with one stone. The bean paste is easy to defrost, so it's convenient to use for other recipes too. Also, the frozen koshi-an balls are delicious eaten straight from the freezer! Recipe by Makoto317 cookpad.japan -
Soft Dumplings with Mochiko and Tofu Soft Dumplings with Mochiko and Tofu
My mother used to make these mitarashi dango for me when I was in junior high school. I revised the amount of mochiko and tofu to make it myself.Even if it hardens in the fridge, it only needs ten or twenty seconds in the microwave to become soft again. Adjust the amount of tofu as you go because its dryness really depends on the variety you use. I used Otokodofu-brand "Masahiro" tofu. Mitarashi sauce uses tons of sugar, so I think maple syrup is healthier. For 12 dumplings. Recipe by Saishokubeginnernano cookpad.japan
