I had one sweet onion left over in the fridge. Sliced onion was too run of the mill, and I wanted to make a main dish rather than a side dish.

Taste at step 5 when you mix everything together! Adjust the sourness, sweetness, and saltiness to your taste. If you add chopped tomato or red peppers, it will become a colorful dish. Recipe by Yakochin

Ingredients

  1. 150 gramsThinly sliced pork
  2. 1Sweet onion
  3. 1Cucumber
  4. 2 tbspVinegar
  5. 1 tbspSoy sauce
  6. 1 tspSugar
  7. 1 tbspOlive oil
  8. 1Katakuriko, yuzu pepper paste, sake
  9. 1Yuzu peel

Cooking Instructions

    Slice the onion thinly. There's no need to soak it in water.

  2. 2

    Combine the vinegar, soy sauce and sugar to make the marinade, and add the sliced onion and thinly sliced cucumber.

    Cut the pork into thin strips and sprinkle with sake. Add the yuzu paste, which adds umami. Leave for 15 minutes.

    Coat the flavored pork with katakuriko, and pan fry with olive oil.

  5. 5

    Add the browned pork to the bowl with the onion, cucumber, and marinade.

  6. 6

    Grate yuzu peel for fragrance and it's done!
