Cut the onion into small pieces.

Add the vegetable oil to a skillet and place over heat for two minutes.

Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it into smaller pieces and until brown.

Drain the grease and pour into a large pot.

Add the chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, salt black pepper, and tomato paste and stir until well combined.

Add the beef broth, petite diced tomatoes, chili beans and tomato sauce and stir until well combined.

Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer uncovered for 25 minutes.

Add in the sugar.

Serve with shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream.
