Mahua: Twisty Chinese Fried Snacks Mahua: Twisty Chinese Fried Snacks
These are called various things depending on the manufacturer. If you go to Chinatown, you can always buy these. They are very simple, but you won't tire of them. The key to these is that firm, chewy texture, but if you make them yourself you can make them as hard or soft as you like! Shaping these is a lot of fun.As long as you know how to form these they are not hard to make. If you are making these for the first time, you can use half of the dough to experiment. They are more nutty and fragrant if you fry them to the point where you think they might be a bit overdone. If you omit the baking powder they'll be even harder. If you prefer them to be softer though, try using 140 g of cake flour and 100 g of bread flour. For 14 to 16 mahua. Recipe by Kototama cookpad.japan -

Great as Snacks: Mayo-Cheese Scones Great as Snacks: Mayo-Cheese Scones
This is a salty variation of my Easy Scones recipe, since I want something savory too. I've kept it simple as usual, and used sliced cheese since I wanted to make it with ingredients that I usually have on hand. When you move the cut dough, the points of the triangles may get shifted or bent, so move the scones carefully. If the points do get misshapen, fix them after you've moved them.... On the other hand, the points tend to stick together once they are baked anyway, so don't worry about it too much.Try these with ham sandwiched in them, or with added toppings too. Brown Sugar 'Karintou' Snacks Brown Sugar 'Karintou' Snacks
Sesame and black sugar can be tasted in these lightly-sweetened snacks. I made these while keeping my figure in mind.Add all the karintou at the same time once the coating mixture has reached a rapid boil.Don't add too much baking powder or they will be soft like cookies. Brown Sugar Karintou (Sweet Deep-Fried Brown Sugar Snacks) Brown Sugar Karintou (Sweet Deep-Fried Brown Sugar Snacks)
I love karintou.Be sure not to boil the sugar. They will turn out well if you coat the deep-fried sticks in sugar as soon as it melts.I also posted a recipe for a cinnamon flavored karintou.Feel free to roll and cut the sticks on a flour-dusted surface, if you like! Recipe by Nico. Yields an easy-to-make amount. cookpad.japan -
Taiyaki-style Snacks (with a sandwich press) Taiyaki-style Snacks (with a sandwich press)
I wanted to eat freshly made taiyaki rather than frozen, so I thought of using my hot sandwich maker. There's no need to worry about adjusting the heat or anything, and they were easy to make. For 8 portions, you will need about 300 g of anko. You can freeze leftovers. Of course, using canned adzuki beans is a lot easier. The cooking time probably differs depending on the hot sandwich maker, so keep an eye on it. However if you open the lid too early, the batter may stick to it, so watch out for that. For 8 portions. Recipe by Yukirinrin cookpad.japan -
