Sweet Maccheroni with Walnuts

Sweet maccheroni with walnuts is a traditional Christmas dessert from the Umbrian region of Italy. I was asked to make a dessert using pasta, so I thought I’d share this recipe—it’s not very well known, but it’s absolutely delicious.

I was asked to make a dessert using pasta, so I thought I’d share this recipe—it’s not very well known, but it’s absolutely delicious.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, as you would for regular pasta.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, breadcrumbs, chocolate, cocoa powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon zest, coffee, and the mix of liqueurs.

Stir everything together with a spoon until the mixture is nice and moist.

Drain the pasta, reserving a little of the cooking water. Add the hot pasta to the mixture and mix well. If it seems too dry, add a bit of the reserved cooking water (I didn’t need to add any).

Refrigerate until completely chilled. Enjoy your dessert!

P.S. Be sure to cook the pasta until it’s very soft, not al dente!
