Rinse 1 cup of rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Boil water in a pot, then drain and add the soaked rice. Cook the rice until done, then drain any excess water and set the rice aside. Heat a skillet on the stove and add oil.

Once the oil is hot, add asafoetida and cumin seeds. Let the cumin seeds crackle, then add curry leaves and sauté. Add salt to taste, then add the cooked rice and mix well.

Mix everything thoroughly and serve the rice on a plate. You can enjoy this rice with yogurt, dal, or any vegetable dish, or eat it on its own. In my home, everyone loves it. Sometimes I make it in a pressure cooker or boil the rice first and then fry it this way. Kids especially enjoy jeera rice, and it's a favorite for everyone.
