How to Pit Cherries

I usually cut cherries in half or use a toothpick to remove the pits, but since it's rather messy, I came up with a new, easy way to do it with a tool I found by foraging my kitchen.
When scraping around the pits, be gentle so that you don't pierce or smash the fruit. Since pit removers are rather expensive, this crab fork is something you can easily buy at a100 yen shop; but I'm sure you have one laying around the house. Recipe by Pu-kosan

Taadaa!! This is our special gadget. It's the spoon/fork(?) used to extract flesh from a crab!!
- 2
Remove the stem from the cherry, then insert the small end of the crab fork into the hole.
- 3
To prevent pulling up flesh along with the pit, scrape around it in a circle, then use the fork to lever the pit up and out of the cherry.

I was able to pit it cleanly!

How To Pit Sweet Cherries How To Pit Sweet Cherries
I wanted to make some preserves with some American (sweet) cherries I bought cheaply, but I don't have a cherry pitter...That's when this method came to mind. You can remove the pits much more cleanly than you can imagine! I was surprised myself! I recommend this when you are giving cherries to small children too, to be safe.Inspect the cut the end of the tip carefully and see if there are any ragged parts. If they are, cut them smoothly. If bits of plastic get into the cherries it can be dangerous. Be careful not to cut yourself with the cut off end of the tip. When you get used to pitting the cherries, you'll be able to remove the pits easily without letting any juice out. Recipe by vegeful cookpad.japan -

Yes, these beauties take some time to make, but they're SO worth the time and effort. Invertase is an essential ingredient in the fondant; without it you won't get that yummy, liquidy juiciness between the cherry and the chocolate coating. Maggie Conlon -
Cherry Compote Cherry Compote
I always make this compote when American cherries are in season. The alcohol will evaporate off, so this is delicious even for those who don't drink alcohol. For children, you can replace the white wine with water. Add the Kirsch before turning off the heat to evaporate the alcohol. By the way, you can also make this with Japanese cherries. California Farm Seven Year Cherries California Farm Seven Year Cherries
Once alcoholic drinks are 80 proof, 40% alcohol, or higher, they are excellent preservation agents for fruits, herbs and vegetables. Different kinds of alcoholic beverages add different flavors to different fruits, and preserve them for years to come.Bing cherries will be ripe soon. They are fun to preserve whole in inexpensive California Brandy, with the stems attached, or halved and pitted, to be served over ice cream. An old large gallon size glass pickle jar with lid does the thrick, no cooking needed. Hobby Horseman
