Ingredients

20 minutes
4 servings
  • 1 cupchana dal soaked
  • 250 glauki (bottle gourd)
  • 1small onion
  • 1small tomato
  • 1green chilli
  • 4-5garlic pods
  • as requiredfew curry leaves
  • Dry masala
  • 1 tspturmeric powder
  • 1 tspCumin seeds
  • 1 tspmustard seeds
  • 1 tbspcoriander powder
  • 1 tspred chili powder
  • 1 tspgaram masala
  • as per your tastesalt
  • 1 tbspoil +1tsp oil

Steps

20 minutes
  1. 1

    Soak chana dal for nearly 4 hours or overnight. Peel, cut and chop bottle gourd into large medium pieces. Cut chop onions and tomatoes.

  2. 2

    Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add inion and saute till it turns golden in colour. Now add soaked chana dal and cook on low flame and roast till it turns pink and leaves oil in the sides.

  3. 3

    Now add all the dry masala, bottle gourd and tomatoes and 1 cup water. Cooj on medium low flame covered stirring in between till the dal is all cooked and soft that it mashes well in-between your two fingers.

  4. 4

    Now in a tadka pan add oil and heat. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, green chillies, chopped garlic and curry leaves. Pour it over the chana dal and lauki.

  5. 5

    Serve with hot phulkas, roti or steamed rice.
