PUTO is a Filipino rice cake eaten as a merienda or snack, one of the most popular delicious kinds of kakanin. Puto can be steamed without any toppings or by simply adding a slice of cheese on top.

PUTO is a Filipino rice cake eaten as a merienda or snack, one of the most popular delicious kinds of kakanin. Puto can be steamed without any toppings or by simply adding a slice of cheese on top.
Steps

Greese mold with melted butter or cooking oil. Sift flour, sugar and baking powder; mix well.

Mix egg, milk, butter, water and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.

Pour wet ingredients over dry ingredients. Mix well until free of lumps.

Pour the mixture amout 3/4 of the silicone mold and put mold into the steamer.

Wrap lid of steamer with cotton cloth to avoid water dripping over puto. Steam for 10 minutes.

Place a piece of sliced cheese into the top of each puto and steam additional minute until cheese is slightly melted.

Let it cool before removing from the mold. Serve and enjoy.
