You will only need one chocolate cake for your tree base, (6) 13 by 9 in Yellow cakes for the tree and (1) 9 in round cake for the star.

Preheat the oven to 350° and spray 13x9 pans, if you don't have spray you can use butter or cooking oil and lightly flour the pans.

Chocolate cake. Add the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking power, baking soda and salt into your mixer bowl. Whisk all ingredients together. Then add your milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix all together at med speed. Then reduce speed add boiling water and mix well. Slowly add boiling water. Once all added increse speed.

Pour batter into pan and bake for 30 - 35 mins

Chocolate icing. In med bowl mix sugar and cocoa set aside. In large bowl cream butter until smooth, then lightly mix and add sugar mixture along with milk blend in vanilla beat until fluffy.

Yellow cake. Mix dry ingredients into large bowl med speed. Add milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Mix well then pour batter into 13x9 pan and cook for 30-35 mins you will need one 9in round made cook for 15-20 min

White frosting/ Green or and color you wish your tree to be. In large bowl cream together the sugar and shortening until smooth. Gradually mix milk and vanilla until smooth and stiff.

When all cakes and icing are done you are ready to go work on making your Christmas tree cake.

Start out by putting cakes in place, then cutting off the edges forming a tree shape. Then cut out your star from the 9in pan. Then add your icing and decorate as you want it.
