Kala Chana or Black Chana is a very good source of vegetarian protein. It can be cooked in a variety of forms like chaat, curries, or ghugni. Here is how to make Kala Chana Curry.

First, soak the chickpeas in hot water for 2 to 3 hours. Then wash the chickpeas 2 times with water. Now, in a cooker, add chickpeas, water, and salt as required, and turn off the gas flame after blowing 5 whistles.

Now, heat oil in a cooker, add mustard, cumin, curry leaves, and onion, and saute till the onion turns pink. Then add ginger- garlic paste and chopped tomatoes. After the tomatoes become soft, add asafoetida, turmeric, red chili, coriander, and garam masala and mix well.

Once the oil is released from the masala, add boiled chickpeas, salt, and 1 glass of water, and again mix it well. Then smash a few chickpeas with a smasher.

Now, close the lid of the cooker and blow the whistle twice and turn off the gas flame. After 10 minutes, add Kasuri methi and coriander and mix it.
