S'mores bread pudding

A few days ago we bought bread from our local supermarket. They didn't have any of the baked-in-store loaves that we like, so we instead bought one made at their central factory (wherever that is). Naturally, the bread was awful. And naturally, we didn't eat it. Since I'm not one to waste perfectly good food (insert mocking laughter here), I decided to turn the offending loaf into bread pudding. And not just any bread pudding, either, but s'mores bread pudding. Nothing brings a woeful, bland hunk of bread to life like a whole lot of chocolate and toasty marshmallows, I say.

Steps
- 1
Cut the bread slices into 2 cm squares and spread them out on a baking sheet. Bake in a 350 F oven until they're dry and just slightly toasted, about 6 to 8 minutes. Give the bread a toss about midway through to ensure it bakes evenly. Remove the tray from the oven and let it cool.
- 2
In a medium bowl, add the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until thoroughly combined.
- 3
Add the chocolate to a small bowl and microwave for 15 seconds. Give it a stir, then repeat a few more times. Eventually the chocolate will be melted enough to drizzle.
- 4
Butter the inside of a high-sided baking dish. Add about half the bread, then drizzle on half of the melted chocolate. Add the remaining bread, then drizzle on the remaining chocolate. Pour the milk mixture over top. Using your fingertips, press down gently on the bread to push it deeper into the custsrdy liquid. Let sit for about 20 minutes.
- 5
Preheat your oven again if you have to, to 350 F. Slide in the pudding and bake for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the pudding comes out clean. Pull the dish out of the oven and sprinkle on the marshmallows. Reposition your oven rack as far away from the top element as possible, then put the pudding back in on broil. Once the marshmallows are melty and toasted, the pudding's done.
