Steps

3hrs 15mins
  1. 1

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat in a saucepan or electric kettle; add tea bags and brew for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

Mix in sugar and baking soda. Pour mixture into a gallon pitcher and add 12 remaining cups of cold water.

  3. 3

Optionally, slice a lemon in half and squeeze into the tea with your hand underneath to catch any seeds. Drop the used lemon halves into the tea. Refrigerate.

  4. 4

    Serve ice-cold and enjoy!

Tips

Why add baking soda to your sweet tea

Adding a little baking soda to your sweet tea will clear away any cloudiness left from the mixing process as well as neutralize the tannins, giving it a smoother taste.
