I often make this when we want a hearty meal.
I used to make this a lot when the children were small, but these days I cook chicken drumettes with this method for Christmas.

You can use any kind of coke, even diet-coke!
Chicken wings are delicious cooked this way too.
You don't have to use bone-in meat either, a block of meat should be OK (as long as you don't mind if the meat falls apart).
The flavor will be quite rich and salty, so adjust by how much you reduce the sauce. For 3 to 4 servings. Recipe by cafe-cafe

Ingredients

4 servings
  • 500 gramsPork spare ribs
  • 400to 500 ml Coke
  • 3to 4 tablespoons ○Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp○Sake
  • 1 tbsp○Mirin
  • 1Salt, coarsely ground black pepper

Steps

  1. 1

    Rub the salt and pepper into the spare ribs and leave for a while. If the weather is hot, put them in the refrigerator.

    Put the spare ribs in one layer in a large pot, and add enough coke to cover. Simmer over medium heat. When the coke comes to a boil, skim off the scum carefully.

    When most of the scum has been removed, add the ○ flavoring ingredients, cover with a small lid (a drop lid or otoshibuta) and simmer over medium-low heat for more than 30 minutes.

    Take the meat out and reduce the sauce in the pan over high heat. When the sauce has thickened, return the spare ribs to the pot and coat in the sauce.
