For Bentos - Chikuwa Bûche de Noël

cookpad.japan
cookpad.japan @cookpad_jp

I thought of this because I wanted to make a Christmas-themed side dish.

Use any type of cheese you like. I recommend using these in bentos for kids 4 years and older. For younger kids, I recommend just rolling up the sliced cheese and cheddar cheese and decorating with a bento pick. Leftover bits can be sliced lengthwise and decorated with bento picks to make "candies." For 2 pieces. Recipe by Healthy daisuki

Steps

  1. 1

Cut the chikuwa in half lengthwise. Line the inside with cheese and nori and roll it up. That's it.

  2. 2

Secure both sides with toothpicks, and slice in half diagonally. Cut of about 5 mm worth from the end and put it on top of the roll.

  3. 3

If the two parts won't stay together, secure with an uncooked spaghetti strand or a bento pick.

  4. 4

This one was rolled vertically. The roll is bigger than the one in Step 2, but it's hard to roll and is too big for small children to eat easily, so this one is for grown-ups.
