Serves 5 servings
  • 1 bowlred beans
  • 1/3 bowlblack glutinous rice (purple rice)
  • 1/2 bowldried lotus seeds
  • To taste, light brown sugar
  • 2rice bowls water (about 2 cups/480 ml)

Steps

90 minutes
  1. 1

    Rinse the red beans, lotus seeds, and black glutinous rice. Place them in a soup pot and add 1/2 rice bowl of water (about 1/2 cup/120 ml). Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat.

  2. 2

    When the liquid reaches the surface of the red beans, add another 1/2 rice bowl of water (about 1/2 cup/120 ml) and continue cooking.

  3. 3

    When the red beans start to split, add the remaining 1 rice bowl of water (about 1 cup/240 ml) and light brown sugar to taste. Continue cooking until the red beans are soft and the black glutinous rice is fully cooked.
