  • 1/2 cupsplit mung dal
  • 4 cupscluster beans, chopped
  • 1 tablespoonCoconut oil
  • 1/2 inchCinnamon stick
  • 1star anise
  • 1 tspmustard seeds
  • 1/2 tspfenugreek seeds
  • 1bay leaf
  • 4cloves
  • 1 tspCumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoonasafetida powder
  • 1/4 cupcurry leaves
  • 1/4 cuponion, chopped
  • 1Green chilie, finely chopped
  • 1 inchginger, finely chopped
  • 1 tspGarlic, minced
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  • 1 tablespooncurry powder
  • 1/2 cupcoconut milk
  • 1/4 cupcilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 tspKasuri methi
  • 10roasted cashews
  • Necessary salt
  • 2 ccooked rice
  • 1 tbspghee

    Add 2 cups of water to the mung in a bowl, Take enough water in the cooker to generate steam for cooking. Place the bowl with mung inside the pressure cooker. Place the chopped cluster beans in a bowl and place on top of the bowl with mung. Cover the cooker, place the weight and set ithe cooker on high flame. Cook following manufacturer’s instructions..

    After the pressure develops reduce the flame and simmer for 15 minutes. Turn off the stove. After 10 -15 minutes. Open the cooker, remove the cooked mung and the beans..

    Do the tempering/thadka in a saucepan over medium heat. Heat oil, add mustard seeds, let the mustard pop open. Then add cumin seeds, fenugreek. cinnamon, bay leaf, cloves, anise in hot oil.
    Sauté onions until translucent. Stir in chili, ginger and garlic; add turmeric and curry leaves. Add 2 cups of water and bring it to boil.

    Add the cooked dal and the cluster beans. Continue cooking over medium low heat for a couple of minutes. If too thick you may dilute by adding a cup of water.
    Add the spice powder, stir and simmer the heat.

    Add coconut milk and stir. Add salt and stir. Garnish with roasted cashews, kasuri methi, chopped coriander Leaves. Aromatic, flavorful and nutritious cluster bean koottu is ready. Transfer to serving bowl.
