Wash and chop spinach. Soak Bengal gram for 2 hours. Take a pan. Add oil. Once oil is hot, add Asafoetida.

Add chopped garlic and onion. Saute for some time. Add tomato. Add masalas and continue to cook on low flame.

Add chana dal, spinach and water. Add water and close the lid and continue to cook on low flame. If you are making in pressure cooker, give three whistles.

Open the lid and mix it well. Serve hot with Roti.
