Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions, typically 8-10 minutes until al dente.
Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta.

While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
Add the garlic slices and sauté gently, being careful not to burn the garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the garlic becomes golden and fragrant.
Add the red pepper flakes and a pinch of salt, stirring to combine.
