Mocha or Banana Blossom is a very popular ingredient in Bengali households. There is nothing that goes waste in a Banana tree- stem, flower, fruit and leaf all are used. This is a Bhorta and adding Poppy seed and Potatoes gives a distinctive flavour

Wash the Banana blossom and peel the petals till the very inside, cut off the stock and add to a pressure cooker alongwith potatoes to boil for 1 whistle, set aside, depressurise and peel the potatoes and mash, cut the boiled Mocha

Mashed potatoes

In a bowl soak poppy seed or Posto with green chillies and make a paste with little water in a shil. Add salt and mix

Add the boiled cut Mocha to a blender and blend smooth
- 5
In a pan heat oil, add mocha, stir, add mashed potatoes and mix well, add salt and mix, add Posto paste and mix all together

Mix all together

Serve on rice and drizzle mustard oil and add green chillies
Tips
Soak Posto for 4-5 hrs to get a good paste adding very little water
