Special chana dal that can be had as a side for pulao, coconut rice, ghee rice, etc. by my mommy!
Steps

Soak the chana dal in water for 20 minutes.

Put the soaked chana dal in the pressure cooker with water level one inch above the dal. Put few drops of oil and little salt. Keep for 3 or 6 whistles depending on your cooker. (Take care that the dal should not be fully cooked - should not become a paste. Let it be slightly less cooked than the dal as used in sambhar.)

Now, in a pan, take 2 tbsp of oil. In the oil put saunf, jeera. methi seeds, ajwain(after rubbing), slit green chillis, bay leaf, chopped onion. Add little salt and ginger garlic paste. Saute till onion is golden brown.

Add chopped capsicum and chopped tomatoes(after peeling skin). Saute till rawness goes.

Then add turmeric powder and chilli powder.

Add the cooked dal to the above mixture and bring to boil.

Add 1/2 tsp sugar and salt to taste.

Garnish with coriander.
