It’s dal; it’s soup or anything you choose!

I like to keep dinners light and simple, hassle free so that I can sit in front of the TV at 9 pm; after clearing my kitchen, having kept the ‘milk bag’ out, the alarm set for the next day to watch Masterchef Australia – All Stars peacefully.
To reach this state of calm and contentment I usually make a soup, this is not a traditional soup with a broth and all, but a mix of some veggies and lentils to make it wholesome and filling or else my stomach is grumbling within the next half n hour!
Another plus is that its all boiled, so way low on calories, I have tempered it with some olive oil and garlic but this can be completely avoided to make it very low cal dinner.
Have a large bowl, with bread sticks crunchy toasted buttery bread or with some hot fluffy rice, it’s sure to fill your stomach and make you smile!

Here’s how to make it:
Steps
- 1
Take 3 tbsp each of toor dal and split green moong dal, wash under running water, after they are washed soak the dals / lentils for ten minutes.
- 2
After ten minutes, add to your pressure cooker / pressure cooker vessel one chopped tomato, chopped spinach leaves, the soaked dals and 2 cups of water.
- 3
Cook in the pressure cooker for 20 minutes or 2 whistles on medium flame – please note the cooking time may change as per the capacity of the pressure cooker.
- 4
Once cooked remove the boiled soup, you can temper it just as it is or grind it in the mixer grinder to get a smooth texture.
- 5
In a heavy bottom pan add one 1 tsp of olive oil / ghee / refined oil, once the oil is hot add the finely chopped garlic. Sauté for a minute and then add the dal / soup.
- 6
Boil it for 3-4 minutes; adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.
- 7
Serve hot, if I had my way with a large dollop of home made white butter, but settled for brown bread instead.
