These are a soft breadstick, ideal for soup instead of sliced bread. You could add a little green food dye to the batter if you wanted to. I decorated with raisin eyes and made forked tongues from pieces of chilli pepper. My batter wasn't as loose as I normally make it so they cracked beautifully!

Ingredients

  1. 450 gramsgluten-free / plain flour - see my flour mix below
  2. 2 tspbaking powder
  3. 1/2 tspxanthan gum if using gluten-free flour
  4. 1 tspgarlic powder
  5. 3/4 tsplow-sodium salt
  6. 1 tspdried oregano
  7. 1 tspdried basil
  8. 1 pinchchilli powder
  9. 360 mlsparkling (carbonated) water
  10. 2 tbspolive oil
  11. 2 tbspmaple syrup

Cooking Instructions

    Preheat the oven to gas 7 / 210C / 425°F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper

    Make a well in the middle and pour in the oil and syrup

    The dough should be like a thick cake batter so mix in the water until it reaches that stage. You may not need it all. You could also add some food dye at this stage if you wanted to

    Spoon the mixture into a piping bag

    Snip a 1cm wide end and pipe wiggly lines, spaced evenly apart along each baking sheet, then bake for 18 - 22 minutes or until done
