I've been looking at several different recipes for this dish and decided to create my own. I used the hot pepper jelly and sriracha to reinforce the pepper flavors. Then kicked it up a bit by using the smoked spices as well.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbSirloin steak, cut in thin strips
  • 1 largeGreen pepper, cut in thin strips
  • 1 largeRed bell pepper, cut in thin strips
  • 1/2 largeYellow or white onion, cut in thin strips
  • 1/4 cupSoy sauce
  • 1/4 cupHot pepper jelly OR Asian sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tbspSesame oil
  • 1 tbspSmoked garlic powder
  • 1 tbspSmoked paprika
  • 1 tspGround corriander
  • 3 tbspSriracha hot sauce
  • 1 tspMcCormick brand Montreal steak seasoning
  • 1/2 tspCayenne pepper
  • 2 cupBeef broth
  • 3 tbspCornstarch, mixed with a little water to create a slurry for thickening

Steps

  1. 1

    Slice peppers and onions in equal size pieces (thin 2 inch strips or so).

  2. 2

    Slice beef in same size pieces as veggies.

  3. 3

    Add all remaining ingredients to the beef (EXCEPT Beef broth and cornstarch).

  4. 4

    Let beef marinate for 30 minutes or more.

  5. 5

    Heat a large skillet or wok over medium high heat. Add beef and cook for about 5 minutes.

  6. 6

    Add peppers, onions, and broth.

  7. 7

    Reduce heat to medium low (or a low boil). Cook for about 30-40 minutes uncovered. Check broth and adjust seasoning to your liking.

  8. 8

    Add the cornstarch slurry, stir and cook until thickened (5 minutes)

  9. 9

    Serve over cooked rice.
