In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar.

Add the corn syrup, eggs, salt and vanilla and mix well.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and cardamom.

Gradually add the creamed mixture and beat well.

Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350°.

On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out to 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut with your favorite cookie cutters.

Bake on greased cookie sheets at 350° for 8 to 12 minutes, depending on size of cutouts.
