Peel the skin off of the onion.

Core out the center, but not all the way through, to make a well in the onion.

Load up the well with butter or margarine.

Wrap the bacon strips around the onion to cross over the well.

Season with salt and pepper.

Wrap in aluminium foil and twist the top of the foil to close tight.

Toss on the fire and cook until soft.
