My mom always used to throw a can of garbanzo beans (chick peas) in with baked beans, so this is my nod to that. It comes out similar to baked beans, but with a smokier flavor and less mushy.

I used a homemade BBQ sauce for this that wasn't very sweet. I made mine with bourbon, so a Jack Daniels brand sauce might be the closest. You can use whatever your favorite sauce is, though.
