Ingredients

12 servings
  1. 1/2 cupButter (softened)
  2. 2 1/4 cupPacked brown sugar
  3. 3Eggs
  4. 3Squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
  5. 2 tspVanilla Extract
  6. 2 1/4 cupAll purpose flour
  7. 2 tspBaking soda
  8. 1/2 tspSalt
  9. 1 cupSour cream
  10. 1 cupWater
  11. Frosting
  12. 1 cupButter
  13. 1 cupPeanut Butter (reduced fat/generic not recommended)
  14. 4 cupConfectioner's Sugar
  15. 1/4 cupMilk
  16. 2 tspVanilla Extract
  17. 1 cupFinally chopped peanuts

Steps

  1. 1

    In a large mixing bowl, combine butter and brown sugar; beat in eggs, chocolate and vanilla.

  2. 2

    Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream.

  3. 3

    Gradually beat in water

  4. 4

    Pour into two greased and floured 9-inch round baking pans

  5. 5

    Bake at 350°F for 35-40 minutes or until toothpick comes clean from the center. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to a wire rack to cool completely

  6. 6

    For frosting: cream the butter, peanut butter, confectioners' sugar! milk and vanilla in a mixing bowl until smooth; set aside

  7. 7

    Split each cake into two layers. Place bottom layer on a serving plate; spread with about 1/2 cup of frosting. Repeat layers twice. Top the cake with the remaining frosting.

    Gently press peanuts into sides of cake
