Ingredients: 6 cup water; 8 oz ground up hot dogs; 1 tsp kosher salt; 1/2 tsp white pepper; 1 tsp onion powder; 1 tbsp paprika; 1/2 tsp cinnamon; 1/2 tsp oregano; 1 tbsp chili powder; 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg; 1 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes; 1/2 cup white vinegar; 3/4 cup corn starch dissolved in 1 cup water

Most people when thinking of a hot wiener think chili dog, however in the mid Hudson Valley of NY the hot wiener is totally different.. Its more of a hot dog with a sauce than a hot dog with chili. Served on a steamed bun with finely chopped onions and mustard...

Ingredients

6 cupwater
8 ozground up hot dogs
1 tspkosher salt
1/2 tspwhite pepper
1 tsponion powder
1 tbsppaprika
1/2 tspcinnamon
1/2 tsporegano
1 tbspchili powder
1/4 tspground nutmeg
1 1/2 tspcrushed red pepper flakes
1/2 cupwhite vinegar
3/4 cupcorn starch dissolved in 1 cup water

grind up hot dogs and put in saucepan

add water and all ingredients except cornstarch

bring to a boil, then turn down heat and let simmer for 30min

slowly add dissolved cornstarch and bring back to a boil keep stirring as heating

turn off stove and let sit for 10min. Sauce will thicken as it cools.

serve on a steamed bun with hot dog.. preferably a wiener add finely chopped fresh onions and spicy mustard

I could remember it as a young man I would watch and help my grandmother cook in the kitchen... She was a northern Italian woman from Naples so I got to see a lot of the recipes that she had in her family for quite some time.... It probably was this process that started me on my love of cooking..
