Spread apples in 9x13 pan. Sprinkle lemon juice.

Combine topping ingredients and toss.

Add butter and use fingers to rub together until you have pea-sized crumbs

Mix in walnuts, if desired, or throw on top

Spread topping evenly over apples and press down gently with your palm

Bake 45-50 minutes until juice is bubbling around edges

OR: crockpot apples only on low 4 hours. Add topping the last cooking hour

Serve with ice cream or whipped cream for a treat
