Ingredients

  1. 500 gramsMutton
  2. 6 piecesPotatoes (peeled and halved)
  3. 2medium sized Finely chopped onion
  4. 2Slit green chillies
  5. 1 tbspGinger - garlic paste
  6. 1 tbspDry red chilli paste
  7. 1 tbspRed chilli powder
  8. 2 tspTurmeric powder
  9. 1 tspCumin powder
  10. 1 tbspCoriander powder
  11. 1 tspGaram masala powder
  12. 1/2 cupYogurt
  13. 1Bay leaf
  14. 1/2 tspCumin seeds
  15. 1 tspSugar
  16. Salt as required
  17. 1/2 cupMustard oil
  18. 1 tbspGhee
  19. 2 cupsHot water

Steps

  1. 1

    Marinate the mutton pieces with yogurt, dry red chilli paste, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and 4 tbsp mustard oil for 6 hours.

    Heat oil in a kadai.

  3. 3

    Add potatoes and fry until it becomes golden brown and
    Keep aside

  4. 4

    Add oil in the same kadai.

  5. 5

    Add bay leaf, sugar and cumin seeds for seasoning.

  6. 6

    Add onions and saute till it becomes brown.

  7. 7

    Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for 20 seconds.

  8. 8

    Add marinated mutton and stir continuously.

  9. 9

    Add salt, slit chillies and fried potatoes, stir for 10 minutes on a medium flame.

  10. 10

    Add hot water.

  11. 11

    Cover the lid on a low flame for 1 hour and let it boil.

  12. 12

    Open the lid and add garam masala powder and ghee.

  13. 13

    Turn the gas off when the mutton gets cooked.

  14. 14

    Serve hot with steamed rice and salad.
