‘Otsumami’ is something to nibble often with drink which is most likely alcoholic drink. This is a perfect ‘Otsumami’. Crunchy Peanuts and fried Tofu are dressed with sweet miso sauce. Easy, quick and yummy! If you have a toaster oven, you can toast the Tofu pieces, and it is even easier.

Ingredients

2 to 4 servings
  • 200-300 gFirm Tofu *cut into small cubes
  • 1 tablespoonOil
  • 1/2 cupUnsalted Roasted Peanuts
  • 2 tablespoonsMiso *dark colour type recommended
  • 1 tablespoonSugar
  • 1 tablespoonMirin
  • Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) or Ground Chilli *optional

Steps

  1. 1

    In a small bowl, combine Miso, Sugar and Mirin.

  2. 2

    Dry Tofu cubes with paper towel. Heat Oil in a frying pan and cook Tofu cubes until nicely browned and crunchy. Add Peanuts and stir-fry for a few minutes and remove from heat.

  3. 3

    Add the miso sauce and combine well. The remaining heat will cook the sauce slightly.

  4. 4

    Sprinkle some Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) or Ground Chilli if you like and enjoy with your favourite drink.

Any tips on getting the tofu “crunchy” ? I’ve often tried drying out my tofu for hours but still no avail!
