Tuna Tatake for 2

I watched a show on Netflix about a Japanese lady making simple Japanese recipes. Her Tuna Tatake recipe seemed simple and looked good. The way she presented looked nice and easy for someone like me to achieve. So I tried and was pleased with dressing, but not the tuna because I seared it too long. The goal was to sear each sides about only 2mm. As you all could see, mine was done too long:)
I think her name is Sachie and the show is called Sachie ‘s kitchen.
Ms. Sachie didn’t give the recipe. So the one I am sharing with you is based on what I did. And I also substituted the sake with Korean Seoju because I didn’t have the first on hand. I guess you can use tequila or vodka also. You just have to try.

Steps

  1. 1

Coat tuna well with 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Let it rest while making the dressing.

  2. 2

Boil sake (or substitute) and Mirin for about 10 seconds for the evaporation of the alcohol. Put soy sauce and reduce over low heat to thicken it a little bit (the dressing would stay on the tuna better. Do not leave it unattended). Turn off heat and add lemon zest.

  3. 3

Sear the tuna on a hot pan. The goal is to sear just 2mm on each side of the tuna. Do not sear the ends.

  4. 4

Slice tuna into 1/4 inch pieces. Arrange tuna in circular on a plate.

  5. 5

For garnish: use only the white part of a green onion, the longer the better. Make an incision to the side of the onion, peel a few layers, julienne the onion, put in ice cold water with some radish sprouts.

  6. 6

    Drizzle the dressing on tuna.

  7. 7

Put some of the crisp onion and radish sprouts in the center of the tuna for garnish.

  8. 8

Voila! You have a simple, elegant and yummy dish! Hope you all will enjoy it as much as my husband and I do:)
