A popular appetizer / starter from the french colonial days of Pondicherry.... Potato patties stuffed with minced meat... called Pate' in French ..a special dish for a special day...
Steps

Wash potatoes and boil them with skin till they are soft and mushy

Once done cool.. Peel the skin and mash potatoes finely till they are smooth and fluffy..set aside

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan..add onions,garlic,fennel and pepper..saute till onions brown..

Add the minced meat (beef or mutton) saute till the meat is cooked...check seasoning and remove from stove..

To make Patties..beat the eggs in a bowl.. put the flour in a plate for dusting..

Place all ingredients side by side..clean your hands.take a small handful of mashed potatoes in your palm flatten it to a round shape..place a tbsp of the cooked meat and fold the mash into a patty.. dust it in the flour to coat evenly on all sides..set aside..Repeat till you finish with all the mashed potatoes..

Place the patties and beaten eggs side by side...Heat a pan..put a blob of butter..when it melts take a Pattie,dip in the egg wash and put it in the pan.. repeat with a couple..

Shallow fry the patties..till it browns both sides..Remove and place it on a kichen towel / tissue to drain excess fat.. Repeat with the remaining patties..
