Ingredients

Serves 4 servings
  1. For marinating the paneer
  2. 12 ozpaneer (about 350 grams)
  3. 4 tablespoonscornstarch (about 32 grams)
  4. 1/2 teaspoonred chili powder
  5. Salt to taste
  6. For the chilli paneer
  7. 7garlic cloves, finely chopped
  8. 1 pieceginger, grated
  9. 2bell peppers, cut into cubes
  10. 1onion, cut into cubes
  11. 1 tablespoonsoy sauce
  12. 1 tablespoonwhite vinegar
  13. 2 tablespoonschili sauce
  14. Salt to taste
  15. For the cornstarch slurry
  16. 1 tablespooncornstarch (about 8 grams)
  17. 6 tablespoonswater (about 90 ml)
  18. Oil as needed for frying + extra oil for frying paneer
  19. Chopped cilantro or green onion tops for garnish (optional)
  20. Lemon wedges for garnish (optional)

    Cut the paneer into small pieces. In a bowl, mix the paneer with salt, red chili powder, and cornstarch. Gently toss with a spoon. If the mixture seems too thick, add 2 tablespoons of water and mix again.

    Fry the paneer pieces in oil over medium heat until golden brown.

    In a pan, sauté the garlic and ginger in oil for 30 seconds. Add the bell peppers and onion, and sauté for 2 minutes.

    Add all the sauces, then add the fried paneer and salt (add less salt since the sauces already contain salt).

    Add the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2 minutes. Once the chilli paneer thickens, add green onion tops or cilantro. Serve hot.
