In a bowl mix together the ingredients under first marination and marinate the chicken with it and refrigerate for 45 minutes.

Mix all the ingredients under second marination and marinate the chicken with it and refrigerate for another 30 minutes.

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a cooking pan and add the onions and cashew nuts till they are transparent. Then cool it and grind it to a paste in a blender.

In the same cooking pan add the remaining 4 tbsp of oil and add the cumin seeds and asafoetida. When it crackles add the bay leaves, dry red chillies and cardamom.

Add the cashew nut onion paste and rest of the spices and sauté for a while. Then add the chopped tomatoes and sauté for a while till oil separates.

Then add the marinated chicken and sauté on high heat to coat it well with the masalas. Then add 1 cup of lukewarm water and bring it to boil. Simmer and cook on low heat for 20 mins till the chicken is cooked.

Then add the cream and mix well and cover and cook for 10 minutes. Then adjust seasoning and switch of the flame and garnish with the julienned green chillies. Enjoy with chapati or rice.
