Festive Ham Sushi for Girl's Day

cookpad.japan
cookpad.japan @cookpad_jp

I saw a ham sushi cake on TV made by a popular granny blogger. Her cake was plain in the inside, but I thought if I layered the filling like a cake, it may be more colorful. So I tried adding things my children love that I had in the refrigerator. The combination of cheese, shiso and mayonnaise was delicious.

If you line your cake pan with plastic wrap, you can unmold the sushi cake easily. By layering the ingredients it looks more decorative when you cut through the cake. For girl's day (hinamatsuri), you could use pale pink smoked salmon or cured ham! Recipe by Appurushinamon

Mix flaked salmon, finely scrambled egg and so on into the sushi rice. (Think up your own original combinations!) Put half of the mixed rice in the pan and press down.

  3. 3

Add another layer of ham, and cover with mayonnaise.

Put on a heavy heatproof container or a weight, and press down on the sushi rice hard. The blogger I got the idea from used dictionaries and phone books as weights.
