Heart-Shaped Apple Pie

cookpad.japan
cookpad.japan @cookpad_jp

I tried making the apple pie, when I suddenly had the heart idea! My family, in particular the girls, really love this apple pie!

Please make sure that your heart fits onto the baking tray with plenty of space around the edges. Please keep the room as cool as possible otherwise the puff pastry will warm up too much. And please make sure to chill the pie in the fridge on the baking tray before baking. Recipe by Wagamamahime

Steps

  1. 1

Allow the frozen puff pastry to return to room temperature for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

Check the size of your baking tray and draw a large heart that would fit inside it on parchment paper. Cut it out.

  3. 3

Join the 2 puff pastry sheets together and stretch them out so theyre big enough to cover your heart. Roll them out further with a rolling pin.

  4. 4

Lay your heart over the pastry and cut around it to make a pastry heart.

  5. 5

It should look like this when cut.

  6. 6

Transfer the heart onto a sheet of parchment paper.

  7. 7

Lightly roll out the remaining 2 sheets of puff pastry and cut into 1 cm wide strips. Use some of these strips to frame your pastry heart.

  8. 8

    Securely fix the sides together.

  9. 9

Add plenty of the cooled apple filling to the pie within the edges we created in step 7. Shape the filling like a mountain so that the center is higher.

  10. 10

This is how the pie should look at this point. The filling is really stuffed in there, right to the edges.

  11. 11

Arrange the remaining strips of puff pastry on top of the pie.

  12. 12

This may take a little effort but try to arrange the strips into a lattice pattern going over and under. It might take some time but it looks cuter, right?

  13. 13

Line the edges of the pie with strips of pastry again. Cut away any pieces of pastry that are sticking out and press the two sets of edges together.

  14. 14

Just one more thing! Combine the ingredients marked with ☆ and brush them all over the pie. Allow the pie to cool in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

  15. 15

Once cooled completely, cook the pie in the oven as directed by the instructions on the frozen puff pastry packet to finish!

  16. 16

Check to see if the pie is done by seeing if the pastry has edxpanded. If not, cook it for a bit longer.
