Wash basmati rice nicely.Strain extra water and let it air dry.

Next heat an earthen pot with oil/ ghee.Add cumin seeds.As it splutters add a cardamom pod.

Next add the basmati rice and slowly, very carefully mix all.
Let it get fried at slow flame for 5-7 minutes. - 4
Next add salt. Mix again gently.

Next add hot water in the ratio 1:2.

Let it cook at medium flame.
As the water gets used and rice grains becomes nice, plumpy... switch the flame off. - 7
Do not disturb else it will become mushy.
Let it cool for sometime,then fluff up the rice. - 8
Add finely chopped coriander leaves and give a gentle mix.
Keep some for garnishing. - 9
It's ready. Have it with hot hot double tadka pili dal...the classic combo
