Perfect Rice Every Time

I don't like using rice cookers. My grandmother taught me how to cook rice when I was a child and I still use this same technique as an adult. It works every single time.
Perfect Rice Every Time
I don't like using rice cookers. My grandmother taught me how to cook rice when I was a child and I still use this same technique as an adult. It works every single time.
Steps
- 1
Combine water, margarine (or oil/butter) and seasonings in medium sized pot. Bring to a boil.
- 2
Add rice and turn heat down to medium, stir rice every 3-5 min.
- 3
Keep an eye on the rice. As the water cooks off and is absorbed, add more, 1/2 to 1 cup at a time.
- 4
Test your rice! If a sample from the top of the pot is tender, turn off heat.
- 5
Pour rice into colander. Using HOT water, wash your prepared rice by running it under a faucet for about 30-45 seconds.
- 6
Shake remaining water out of colander and return rice to pot.
- 7
Rice will NOT be sticky at all. Enjoy with the rest of your meal. As you get better, you can experiment with different spices to tailor the recipe to your own tastes!
