Hashed Beef Stew with Ingredients and Canned Tomatoes at Home

cookpad.japan
cookpad.japan @cookpad_jp

I don't like ready-made hashed beef stew roux and consomme, so I made my own with common ingredients.
My husband and kids told me it's easy to eat and they love it.
Once you are used to this homemade taste, you can't go back to ready-made roux.

If you prefer darker colour, stir-fry the flour in the pan until it becomes brown before adding it. Recipe by Harapekoaomushi-

Steps

  1. 1

①Prepare the ingredients: Thinly slice one of the onions to be used for its sweetness. Chop the other one, which will add enjoyable texture. ②Rub salt, allspice (optional), and the flour on the beef.

  2. 2

③Stir-fry the thinly sliced onion in a pan with oil until it becomes soft and wilted. ④Add the beef and continue stir-frying. ⑤Add the rest of the vegetables, and stir-fry some more. ⑥Sprinkle sugar to add sweetness to the vegetables.

  3. 3

⑦When the vegetables become soft, make sure you turn off the heat, then add 2 tablespoons of flour, and mix. If you don't do this after turning off the heat, the flour will become lumpy.

  4. 4

⑧Turn the heat back on. When the vegetables are evenly coated with flour, add canned tomatoes, and ketchup, then coo to take the edge off the sourness. After that, add the rest of the flavouring ingredients.

  5. 5

⑩ Adding butter at the end makes this dish mild in flavour.
