Chinese Congee- Ba bao Congee

Popularly known as the eighth treasure congee “腊八粥 or 八宝粥” consisting of whole grains, nuts and sometimes, some spices. It can actually consist of as many ingredients as possible (personal preferences). So this is a mixture of my selected ingredients and it’s good for a hearty and healthy breakfast which can substitute the usual pancakes, omelettes, bread with cheese, butter, cornflakes or other processed foods and the alike which are typical of breakfast menu. #Breakfast

Cooking Instructions

Combine all the ingredients and cook in a rice cooker/pressure pot cooker and press the congee button/setting. Water can be in ratio of 1:2 depending on individual rice cooker setting or manual.

You may add red bean/ mung bean, sweet potatoes for more sweetness without necessarily adding brown sugar crystals. If using brown sugar and cooking on stove top, you can add the brown sugar when the congee is cooked and allow to gradually melt, then stir properly. N/B: the cooked congee should have water in it, not just soggy.
