[Easy Microwave Cooking] Halloween Kabocha Squash Chakin

We received some delicious kabocha squash as a gift, so I made some into seasonal Jack-o'-Lanterns.

The only key is to do mix up the kabocha squash while it's still hot. Make these with dense and floury type kabocha squash (Watery kabocha squash don't really work...) Recipe by Himawari mama 0721

Steps

  1. 1

Cut the kabocha squash into bite sized pieces, cover with plastic wrap and microwave until tender. In our microwave, it takes a bit less than 5 minutes at 700W.

  2. 2

Divide the kabocha squash into the peel and the flesh while still hot. Mash the flesh well using a grinding bowl and pestle. (You can leave some little lumps for texture.)

  3. 3

Mix in the sugar, butter and milk while it's still hot. Form into little chakin or little balls, and theyr'e done. The caps are made out of the peel, cut into circles with kitchen scissors. The eyes and mouth are cut out of nori seaweed.
