Steps
- 1
First of all wash chana dal and urad dal together and soak it for 6 to 8 hours.
- 2
When both dal is soaked, soak poha in little bit of water for 30 minutes.
- 3
Now add dal and poha to a mixer grinder along with little bit of water and grind everything together. Keep the batter little bit coarse. Just a little coarse not too much!
- 4
Add one to two tablespoon of dahi to the batter along with salt and let it ferment for 6 to 8 hours.
- 5
Now add turmeric, hing, ginger paste, green chilli paste and oil to the batter and give it a good mix. Add enough water to make it of flowing consistency. Keep the consistency like thick dosa batter. Now add eno to it and give it a good mix to activate the eno.
- 6
While mixing the batter, start heating the steamer. Grease the plate or a baking tin and steam it also. Now pour the prepared batter to it and cover and cook it on medium heat for 30 to 40 minutes or until done.
- 7
To make masala, add all the ingredients in a bowl and mix it well. Keep it ready to sprinkle on top of cooked locho while serving.
- 8
When locho is cooked, let it rest for 5 minutes. Take a portion out in a serving plate and add some groundnut oil on top. Add chopped onion, coriander leaves and sev on top. Sprinkle with prepared masala.
- 9
To prepare green chutney, add all the ingredients in a mixer grinder and grind it adding little water.
- 10
Serve surti locho hot along with fried green chillies and green chutney. This is a breakfast recipe which goes really well with a hot cup of tea or coffee.
