Masala chhash / Mattha

Chhash / butter milk is a natural drink which cools down our body on a hot summer day. Masala chhash is prepared by adding different kinds of fresh herbs and spices to the buttermilk. This masala chhash is known as mattha in southern part of Gujarat. It is a cooling and refreshing summer drink.

Steps

Mix yoghurt and water and whisk it to make buttermilk or Chhash. Make sure that you do not use sour curd.

Add coriander leaves, mint leaves, curry leaves, green chilli, ginger, garlic, cumin, black salt and salt to a mixer jar. Add ice cubes to it and make a paste. Adding ice cubes help to retain the green colour.

Add the paste to buttermilk and leave it for sometime in the refrigerator. Strain butter milk after that. If you do not want to strain, then also it is fine.

Serve it chilled.
