Soak the rice in water for about 2- 3 hours and boil 100% (fully cooked) drained and set aside.
In another pan heat ghee or butter add green cardamom, cloves and orange peeling. - 2
When releases aroma, add sugar and milk or water cook it until completely dissolved and thickens.
Add pre - cooked rice cook until all the water completely dried up then add raisins, glazed cherries, coconut, almond, rose water and sprinkle all the food colors or use my method (#see_the_tips). - 3
Cover with lid steam for 10 minutes on low flame.
Garnish with khoya/mawa, gulab jamun edible silver or gold leaves.

#Tip:
I will always use this method how to use food colouring in a mutanjan or you can use normal method directly food colour top of your rice choice is yours.

If you like your mutanjan colour nice, bright and looks separated to the other cololr of rice take a 3 separate bowls add food color in a bowl and mix well (liquid form of powdered form if you use powdered add little water and mix) add 1/2 cup pre cooked boiled rice of each bowls & mix well than washed and drained let sit 5-6 minutes than add the top of your mutanjan side by side and now steam your mutanjan with your favourite toppings.
