Onion tomato chutney for South Indian dishes

Heat oil. Splatter mustard seeds. Add curry leaves and asafoetida followed by dry chillies and Chana dal. Roast on the lowest flame till the dal is pink.

Add onions and fry till they are translucent. Add tomatoes and fry till they are soft. Lastly add salt and coconut and mix.let it cool.

Grind everything with a little water to adjust consistency. It's ready. If you wish, you can add tadka with oil, mustard, asafoetida and curry leaves.
