Kodo Millet Masala Khichdi

Khichdi is a simple wholesome food prepared in most parts of India. This is a complete wholesome meal as it has right quantity of carbs, protein, fiber, fat and other micro nutrients. A comforting and filling millets khichdi made with Kodo millet, moong dal, and minimal spices. This is just perfect to finish on cold rainy days with a dollop of ghee. For me, khichdi is the most comforting one-pot meal that I love to make any time, or some lazy days when I don’t feel like cooking.

Khichdi is a simple wholesome food prepared in most parts of India. This is a complete wholesome meal as it has right quantity of carbs, protein, fiber, fat and other micro nutrients. A comforting and filling millets khichdi made with Kodo millet, moong dal, and minimal spices. This is just perfect to finish on cold rainy days with a dollop of ghee. For me, khichdi is the most comforting one-pot meal that I love to make any time, or some lazy days when I don’t feel like cooking.

First clean green moong dal and kodo Millet with 3 to 4 times of clean water and add enough water to soak the dal and kodo millet together for 3 hours.

Now heat oil in a pressure cooker and add peanuts to it and fry it. Then add mustard seeds and cumin seeds to this.

Now add asafoetida, sweet curry leaves and finely chopped green chillies to this after mustard seeds and cumin seeds are cooked. Now add finely chopped onion to this, mix well and saute till it turns pink in color.

Now add red chilli and garlic chutney to this and mix well and saute the chutney for 1 minute. Then add finely chopped tomatoes, finely chopped carrots, green peas and chopped potatoes to this and mix well. Now add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, coriander cumin powder and salt to this and mix well.

Now add the green moong dal with soaked in water and drain it, and add the kodo millet with drain soaked water and mix it well. After that, add water to this, mix well, cover the lid of the pressure cooker and cook the kodo millet khichdi for 4 whistle on a fast gas flame.

Now the kodo millet khichdi is cooked, then mix it with a spoon and add finely chopped green coriander leaves and mix very well.

Now our very nutritious and healthy kodo millet masala khichdi is ready to serve. Garnish with green coriander leaves and ghee on this khichdi and serve with masala onion and masala curd.
