Homemade Vanilla Extract

I’ve always wanted to “make my own “ vanilla. Tada! Here it is. It’s been “perking” 11 months. I used some for a buttermilk pound cake today. OMGEE the flavor is amazing! #GoldenApron23

Steps
- 1
Use a sharp knife and split lengthwise, splitting them in half, leaving an inch at the end to keep them connected.
- 2
Put vanilla in glass jars with tight fitting lid. Cover completely with the alcohol.
- 3
Give the bottle a good shake every once in a while. Store in dark cool place for at least 2 months or longer.
- 4
I chose Tito’s vodka for my vanilla, since it doesn’t have a flavor of its own. AND, I decided to let it “perk” for a longer period and the flavor is stronger, in my opinion.
