Easy & Delicious! Grilled Cheese and Bonito Rice Balls (Yaki Onigiri)

The combination of soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, and the rich flavor of cheese and bonito flakes is absolutely perfect! It's guaranteed to be delicious.
Recipe background:
I got tired of plain grilled rice balls, so I tried adding cheese and bonito flakes. Whenever leftover cooked rice starts piling up in our freezer, I microwave several portions together, make grilled rice balls, and freeze them again. They're easier to eat than regular rice balls, so they disappear quickly!

Steps
- 1
Prepare warm cooked rice. If using cold rice, microwave it until hot. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients marked with ☆ and mix thoroughly into the rice.
- 2
Use half a slice of melty cheese for each rice ball. Mix the bonito flakes with a little extra soy sauce (not included in the main ingredients).
- 3
Place a large piece of plastic wrap on your work surface. Put half the amount of rice for one rice ball on the wrap, fold a half slice of cheese, and place it on top along with some seasoned bonito flakes.
- 4
Cover the cheese and bonito with the remaining rice, then use the plastic wrap to shape it into your preferred rice ball shape.
- 5
Place the rice balls on a nonstick skillet and cook over low heat until both sides are golden brown. Enjoy!
